Handloom expo features changing fashion trends

Eye-catching handloom varieties, including saris, are on display at the fortnight long district-level exhibition organised by the Department of Handlooms which commenced here on Friday.Ten stalls have been set up by leading cooperative weaver societies.Cooptex has also set up a special stall to showcase its latest handloom products.New designs and attractive textiles are the highlights of the handloom goods. Focussing on the changing trends in tastes of customers, the expo offers a good variety to college students and employed women.Cotton varieties, pure silk varieties made by the societies in Kancheepuram, Arani and Tirubhuvanam are also on display.
A rebate of 30 per cent is offered for all the purchases made at the exhibition. According R. Nadanasabapathi, senior regional manager, Cooptex, a sales target of Rs. 25 lakh has been fixed , which is sponsored by the Handloom Development Corporation, Union Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi.
Mahesan Kasirajan, Collector, declared open the exhibition, which will continue till December 25 at SRT Hall, Thillai Nagar II cross. T. Balasundaram, senior manager (design and production), Cooptex was present on the occasion.
